A few morning ago, the pre-sunrise sky looked like a cover for a sci-fi novel -- other worldly and vaguely apocalyptic.
To the north, though, gentle pastels set a different mood.
Then I saw the crossed con trails and thought at once (as one does) of the legend of the pagan Emperor Constantine whose vision of a cross in the sky, accompanied by the words In hoc signo vinces (By this sign shall you conquer), led him to convert to Chritianity -- taking with him, eventually, the Roman Empire.
And then I thought of a time warp whereby two airliners fall through a wormhole back to 312 A.D. . . .
Hmmm. . .
