As part of the Litfuse Bloggers Program, I was able to join in on the Blog Tour for Imperfect Justice by Cara Putman. I had never heard of this author, but the summary of the story really piqued my interest so I joined the Blog Tour for the book and was excited to read it! (Side note: the author’s other two books have just been added to my wish list.)
If you like legal thrillers then you will definitely enjoy Cara Putman’s latest book, Imperfect Justice, which is the second book in her Hidden Justice series. The author writes another suspenseful legal thriller that keeps the attention of readers from cover to cover.
While this book is the second in a series, it could very easily be read as a stand alone. The friendships of the characters, as well as their faith and lessons being learned draw us into this story completely. Putman handles the delicate topic of domestic violence with poise, while at the same time providing readers with a great suspense thriller. I could barely put this book once I picked it up. 
Emilie is a lawyer who has a calling to help women in trouble and advocate for domestic abuse victims. Emilie’s client, Kaylene, is found bleeding to death with a gun in her hand, with both of her daughters nearby having been shot. The local law enforcement and the public at large blame the mother but Emilie believes otherwise. She just can’t believe this woman would hurt her girls.
Kaylene’s brother, Reid Billings, shows up with a letter from his sister asking him to take care of her daughters if anything happened to her. Emilie pairs up with Reid to find the truth. While their blooming romance isn’t the main focus of the book, but it is definitely running through the pages of this story.
There are some hard points addressed in this book that focus around women struggling to escape abusive and controlling men. Imperfect Justice shines a spotlight on the horrible epidemic of domestic violence and the people dedicated to helping women escape these situations. Putman makes it clear that abuse isn’t always seen in bruises and broken bones.
The story was engaging and had a few twists that I didn’t expect. I found Ms. Putman’s descriptions of the legal system and protective orders realistically interesting (I have worked in law offices for nearly 30 years). I liked the Christian aspect through out this book as well, and I loved how Emilie kept God in her life and asked for His guidance and protection.
