The F1 Singapore Grand Prix has a history of inviting some of the biggest international artists to its entertainment line up, so when I knew about this year’s roster, I got so excited! Aside from nostalgic artists like Shaggy, Boy George, and Rick Astley, this year’s entertainment is top billed by Linkin Park, Shakira, and Charice. Read more…
The very sultry Shakira is of course a favorite for her hits, such as Hips Don’t Lie, Underneath Your Clothes, and more recently, Waka Waka (This Time for Africa). In the 2011 F1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix, she will be performing at Zone 4 on September 24, Saturday.
Filipino pride Charice, who appeared in the recently-concluded second season of the Fox US TV series Glee, will also be part of this epic entertainment extravaganza. I’ve already had a phone Q&A with her this year, but we will see if I could finally get to see her in person as she performs at Zone 4 on September 23, Friday and at Zone 1 on September 24, Saturday.
But of the three big name artists, I am most excited to see Linkin Park. I quite remember how in grade school I was singing (and rapping) to their first mainstream hit, In the End. I would never forget the lines, “I had to fall to lose it all, but in the end, it doesn’t even matter.”
After In the End, Linkin Park got so popular that my friends and I were singing karaoke to their popular singles, such as Somewhere I Belong, Numb, and Faint.
But my love for Linkin Park grew stronger when they released their 2007 album, Minutes to Midnight. Their singles were a hit after hit, from the Transformers theme, What I’ve Done to Bleed It Out. Minutes to Midnight also contains my all-time favorite Linkin Park song, Shadow of the Day, which, in my opinion, demonstrates impressive metaphorical lyricism.
I hope to catch Linkin Park as they perform at the 2011 F1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix’s Zone 4 on September 25, Sunday.
