If Soviet Union were much better than US, living Standard would be superior in a different way.

I am not rich, but I would probably live better if the US had 1980’s East European-style Communism than I do today. For instance, I would reportedly be able to take 2-3 nice vacations every year. I haven’t had enough money to take a vacation in 25 years. I have gone on vacations with some of my extended family, but they paid my way. I have also gone on vacations with some girlfriends, but they paid for a lot of the trip.
Sure, there might be shortages for specialized foods, but I can’t afford to buy most of the fancy food in the grocery store anyway, so I would not be missing anything.
Even a lot of honest Commies will tell you that living standards in the USSR were not better than in the US, and in a lot of ways, they were not as good. Then again, no one was homeless or hungry.
