Welcome to another round of How We Wore It! In case you are new around here or haven't yet run into this linkup here is a quick rundown. All of the participating bloggers are sent the same photo of inspiration. Using that photo for inspiration we have to put together out own outfits using whatever we already have in our closets. You can sign up for future rounds here.
Every time I participate I think it's going to be so easy and every single time I am proven wrong. My biggest challenge this go around was that I'm currently in my Spring Capsule Wardrobe. (Yeah, I jumped on board that train.) While that means I have access to some of my more feminine pieces, it also means that the skirt that would really be perfect for this is in a box and I refuse to break my solemn capsule wardrobe blood oath to go get it. Just kidding, I'm just too lazy to go get the box out of the basement.
The main focus this time is the skirt, hence the title of this post. Was that too snarky? Since starting the whole capsule wardrobe thing way back in January I have been challenging myself to wear things differently and think outside of the box. Let me tell you a story.
Once upon a time I had this beautiful floral skirt. One day I went to put it on and realized that my butt was too big, so I pulled it up, threw a sweater over it and called it a top. People actually commented on how much they liked it. The moral of the story is if your skirt doesn't fit, try wearing it a different way.
Anyway, while putting this outfit together, in my mind, I thought about that skirt. Then, whilst vacationing in San Diego, I found myself at Costco (internal gps) and found myself buying the maxi skirt that I decided to randomly make into a dress. Okay, so I kind of cheated, but everyone knows vacation purchases don't really count. It's a totally different part of my budget!
Besides the femininity of the inspiration photo, I really loved the pop of an unexpected color. My husband and I are a terrible team when it comes to these "fashion" photos, so this is the best accessory photo out of the bunch. Don't worry, I won't quit my day job.
In my necklace there are little flowers that are the same green found in my bracelet. I'm not as bold as Summer from Elevate Everyday, so I chose a more subtle pop.
Below is the How We Wore It inspiration photo for the month and I've also included a list of links of the other ladies who participated. Go check out their outfits and leave them some love! It is super awkward and slightly intimidating to play fashion blogger for a day.
