Access to Kis – Balaton is limited, as you may have guessed by now. The only official place where you can visit it, is at Kanyavari Island. Have a look again at the map:
There is only one road-sign towards the island, and it happens to be very small. And it is only written in Hungarian: Kanyavari Sziget. It took us more than 30 minutes to find it!
Once you have found it and you have parked your car, you will see an enormous wooden footbridge. It gives access to the island, where you can do something excellent bird-watching or just go for a walk and admire the landscape (like Lars and I did).
The best place to start this whole trip – take half a day – is at a tourist information office, like the one in Heviz (more about that later). That’s where we received a quite detailed map of the area. You can also book water safaris in summer.
