How to Take Control and Lose Weight For Good

By Pamela Brown

What does it really take to lose weight and keep it off for good?  I’m sure you’ve heard it all before, but you’re about to get weight lifestyle behavior changeloss strategies that are flexible, livable, and actually work.  So grab a pen and some paper, and take notes.  Or better yet, print or share this post!

In the first two posts of the “How to Change Your Lifestyle to Lose Weight” series, you will learn about the importance of building your personal identity and gaining confidence in your body.  This time, you will learn about taking responsibility for your health and fitness.

You Have the Power!

Taking responsibility for your health means taking responsibility for your feelings, choices, and thoughts that have created your body and life so far.  Moreover, you refrain from surrendering your health to others or neglecting it all together, which means that you’ll live a healthier and more fulfilled life.

How do you take responsibility for your health?

  1. Know your worth, covered in the first post of this series.  Understand that you are significant and you are valuable.  You’re adorable and lovable.  When you learn who you are, outside of life roles and society’s values, you learn what you have to offer the world.  You become fulfilled and inspired to live a healthy, active life.
  2. Become aware of your attitudes, beliefs, choices, and your environment.  Positive or negative, these are the things that shape your body, and build your self-esteem.  The best way to do this is to keep a fitness journal, and record your emotions, thoughts, fears, dreams, times when you eat, what you were thinking, who you were with, etc…  You can learn a lot about yourself when you become aware.
  3. Use the information you learn.  Keep what is healthy and working, change what you can, and manage the rest.  If you have a stressful job, for instance, find ways to manage your stress.  When you become proactive and take control of your attitudes, beliefs, and choices you have a greater sense of control in life.  You live a happier life.
  4. Have a hard time with exercise and healthy eating motivation?  Hire a lifestyle coach to guide, support, and motivate you to reach your full potential.

What to do if you you’re not interested in healthy living

Love is the greatest motivator.  If you don’t care enough about your health to make lifestyle changes, then do it for someone you love.

What is important to you?

Who is the most important person(s) in your life?

What would become of them if something were to happen to you?

Even though your motivation is external, you have to start somewhere!

Summary

Taking responsibility for your actions means a greater sense of control in life, which leads to increased life balance and fulfillment.  Knowing who you are and why you are worthy of a fulfilling lifestyle is the most important step in building a strong foundation of personal responsibility.
