How Thin is Too Thin?

By Tempestra @tempestra1

Another new year – another resolution to lose weight?  Maybe not for me, this time.  Every year starts with this great intention, but after a few half-hearted gym visits and salad dinners, I always succumb to the leftover Christmas choccies and before January is out, the resolve is gone and I’m back to eating what I want and finding something more important to do than attend that aerobics class.

I do wonder why so many of us put ourselves through this annual desire to lose weight.  Is it because we want to feel better, or do we think it’s the ‘right’ thing to do?

It seems that lately, more than ever, we are surrounded by women who have taken this dieting lark way too far.

Poor Kate Middleton, a lovely looking girl, is now a mere shadow of her former self.  Of course it can’t be easy to be in the public eye constantly, but if I’m honest, I think she has crossed the line between attractive slim and unattractive slim. More and more often celebrities seem not to know where that line is.

How thin is too thin?
Rosie Huntingdon-Whiteley is apparently going the same way, the pressures of Hollywood obviously playing on her mind. The original, of course, was Victoria Beckham, a woman who does not, in my opinion, radiate body confidence. Surely one of the most attractive features you can have as a woman is confidence? I know I wouldn’t want to go on a date with a woman and watch her meekly peck at a lettuce leaf in front of me.

To me it seems very sad that so many stunning looking girls have to feel so bad about themselves that they begin to fade away. In the real world, not the one presided over by the terrifying Anna Wintour and her skeletal fashion cronies, it’s just not attractive to look like you are seriously ill.

So that’s it, I’m putting the scales away and my new resolution will be for a “healthy eating and moderate exercise” approach.  I may be on the curvy side but at least I have my health – and that is surely far more important than looking fabulous in a bikini (especially when I only wear mine for one week a year!).
