When I first started this blog—three years ago this month—it was all about my bucket list, and it still is, but somewhere along the way, I seem to have become an accidental food blogger.
I’m not sure how it happened, because as anyone who knows me well will confirm, I’m not much of a cook. I can cook. I just don’t do it often because cooking for one isn’t that fun.
But, I certainly do like to eat, so it was with great delight that I accepted an invitation to my first ‘Insta-eat’ at Spring Hill’s Hotel Urban last Thursday night.
Not only did I get the chance to finally meet (in real life) Phoebe and Matt from Little Grey Box—an amazing travel and lifestyle blog based out of Brisbane—but I got to eat some amazing food while hanging out with my mate Matty.
Having recently undergone a multi-million dollar renovation, Hotel Urban has so many features that I instantly loved from the views over Roma Street Parklands and out towards the city, to the brilliant use of black and white striped feature walls and graffiti covered internal staircase.
While I’m usually all about stripes, I snuck into the ‘green room’, a function space with detailed walls, a floor to ceiling bookcase (complete with ladder) and bright couches for my What Brooke Wore photo of the day.
Black and white stripes with a splash of pink … could this room be any more me?

Now on to the food and what an ‘Insta-eat’ is because I wasn’t really sure before I turned up. It’s basically a mini paparazzi party filled with camera flashes and drooling, but instead of papping celebrities, it’s all about the food.
Good food. Delicious food.
Each time one of the staff left the kitchen holding a plate, it was cameras at the ready as food bloggers and instagrammers from across the city jostled to get the perfect picture. I was actually in awe at how they all worked to achieve the perfect shot to tantilise their thousands of Instagram followers.
Head chef Luke explained that he’d chosen some of the favorite meals off the new winter menu to showcase include the beef ribs which had been braised for eight hours. While all of the food was amazing, the ribs were my favourite, followed by the Chorizo and Haloumi Skewers and the coconut cheesecake.
One of the reason’s I don’t consider myself a food blogger is I’m not very good at describing food … but, as they say, a picture says a thousand words so here goes:
Vietnamese Braised Beef Short Ribs with Urban slaw, coriander, fried shallots and onion rings.
Chicken breast with kipfler potato, chorizo, burnt corn, capsicum, parsley, churmoula and jus.
Pork Belly with celeriac, nutmeg, Julienne apple, American bacon, cider reduction and micro herbs.
Haloumi and chorizo skewers with sriracha aoili.
Bite size sweet treats.
A mini coconut cheesecake was the perfect end to my day.
“What happens in the loft, stays in the loft.”
Thanks to the team at Hotel Urban for shouting Matty and I dinner.
