We'll be honest in saying that we recently watched The Mighty Boosh and that's probably got something to do with why we like this so much, but nonetheless, we feel that Jungle's new single, The Heat, is well worthy of a write up and, if you do like Noel Fielding's most successful comedy show ... and especially the songs within, then we reckon you're almost guaranteed to love this!!
It begins on what could easily have been a monolog taken from an old film. The words "The Heat" have been replayed over and over alongside what can only be described as a smooth as hell Funk track ... filled to the brim with soul, sensualness and, in our day and time, memories of the old.
The vocal from then on is much higher and this is where the comparison to The Mighty Boosh begins to form. You'll notice very quickly that the funky track isn't too far from the constant theme of the songs in the second series of the show and that the vocal both, in the show, and in this brilliant little tune are high pitched.
The lyrics and the general subject of this song is not one that has such nonsense attached as in The Boosh, but the comparison is most definitely there and, we guess this could be considered a more Playlist friendly version of the sorts of things we loved on the show.
The simple fact is, whilst we are closely attaching this to The Mighty Boosh, there is no doubt in our minds that these boys have worked hard and created this track off their own backs ... coming to the conclusion that they can, quite simply, make a really impressive track that could have been featured in the likes of one of our favorite shows.
We'd like to take Jungle on their own merit and, in that respect, we cannot wait to hear some more as this is a promising start to what looks like it could be an ingenious career, filled to the brim with the comeback of funk!
Paul.
