Homemade Sweet Potato Fries and Chips.

By Katherine @pbrunnerblog
I swear I'm a lifestyle blogger. Really. But... When Wal Mart has sweet potatoes on sale, how can one expect me to resist? Especially when I eat sweet potato fries like they're going out of style. So grab your potato peelers! I'm about to save you some big bucks without sacrificing taste!

I started out by peeling the potatoes. (Duh!) This was super easy and fast!

Once peeled, I chopped them into about 1/4 inch thick slices.

The slices were so long that I ended up cutting them in half, but that was my preference. Cut them in whatever way you want. Whatever floats your boat.

Next, I put the fries on a baking sheet so I could season them. It would have been so much easier if I had done this in a bowl! Always a learning experience, eh?

I seasoned the fries with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and a little bit of olive oil.

Then, I baked the fries at 400F. I may or may not have burned my tongue eating these straight off the tray. Sorry Mom, I know you taught me better. How could I resist though?

I was feeling really proud of my fries, when I noticed my dad was peeling more sweet potatoes to make sweet potato chips.

I'm not going to lie. Food envy overcame me.

His sweet potato chips are exactly the same as my fries, but they are thinner and crispier.

They took less time to cook, and they tasted like potato chips. But better. And get this. They were baked, meaning they were tasty, but they will also keep you in your high school jeans. Win.

So...Instead of spending $5 on a bag of ready made Sweet Potato Fries, why not make these? You can have them ready within the hour, and they don't have all those unnecessary over processed ingredients store-bought ones have! Oh, and they don't require any weird equipment! Yay!Homemade Sweet Potato Fries or Chips
Ingredients:
  • 2 Sweet Potatoes (peeled and chopped)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • A drizzle of oil (literally just a teensy weensy bit)
  • Oil Spray

Directions:
Preheat the oven to 400F, and grease a baking sheet. Cut the potatoes into slices (thick or thin). Toss the slices with oil or oil spray in a bowl. Add all other seasoning ingredients and mix well. Spread the fries on the baking sheet. Bake 25-30 minutes, flipping them at the halfway point. Broil the fries in the last 2 minutes (for crispier fries).

I was going through Chocolate Covered Katie's blog, and apparently she uses the exact same recipe. She also posted the nutrition facts, proving my point that these fries are tasty AND good for you! Enjoy!Homemade Sweet Potato Fries and Chips.
