This is the second present I prepared for my co-worker’s birthday. This particular gift came about because of Rocket. He turned 10 months old recently and with that, he gained about 5 teeth nearly all at once. His parents transitioned him to “step 2” baby food. I’m not familiar with this as they didn’t have it 30 year ago and when I opened the jar, it smelled awful! We were having scrambled eggs and bacon so I minced some up and fed them to Rocket – he loved it! At about the same time, his other grandpa passed away and Rocket was staying here with PaPa for a few days where he ate chicken, biscuits and gravy, toast and other scrumptious delights! When it was time for him to go back home, Rocket did not want any trifling “step 2” food – he wanted REAL food! In fact, it was reported that when a spoonful of baby food came close to his lips, he made gagging noises and refused to eat it. PaPa got a big kick out of this information! So, my daughter was stuck with about ½ a bagful of perfectly good organic (Ella’s) baby food. She brought it to me so I could give it to a lady at work who has a grandson about the same age. That is, until one night on Pinterest.

I found a recipe for dog biscuits made with baby food. Seriously! As I said in my last post my co-worker loves her dog, George. I grabbed a pouch of Ella’s beef and vegetables and some organic whole wheat flour in these amounts:

2 Cups Whole Wheat Flour
2 (or a little more) Jars or 1 ½ pouches baby food
Mix it up adding more flour or baby food as needed to make a thick but not sticky dough:

Then roll it out onto a lightly floured clean surface until 1/8 inch thick.
Cut out your little shapes with cookie cutters or with a pizza cutter.
Place on a baking sheet and cook in pre-heated 350 F oven for 20 – 25 minutes.

I snuck two out for my boys and they both loved them. Co-worker told me this morning that George was extremely happy with “his” birthday present!

Now, I have something to do with all that baby food!
