Home Sweet Home

By Bren @Virtual_Bren

When we bought our home in 2004, it was just what I was looking for, well minus the neighbors. :) A ranch house with some land and in a quiet area. When we began house shopping, we had a cat and my hubs daughter would spend the summers with us. So a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house was great!

Over the years, I’ve been outgrowing my home. I mean, I love my home but it needs some work and I would definitely love a garage and no neighbors. The work that needs to be done is general things like painting the interior and adding more trim. My hubs has been very good at ripping out the carpeting and adding Allure wood flooring in almost the entire house. Trust me, if you have dog(s), this stuff is awesome!

But now that is the hubs, me, and Titan, the home seems so big. We would love to downsize however, the current economy for selling homes, sucks! We bought our house during the height of the economy. Homes in my neighbor are selling for 50k less than what we bought our home for! We have been wanting to move for a couple of years but just can’t take the lost! We owe more than what it would sell for. How’s that for a supposedly “booming” economy!

But that doesn’t stop me from looking at smaller homes. I would like a 2 bedroom, 2 bath, with a garage on some land with no neighbors closeby. A small ranch, as I hate stairs and Titan wouldn’t do with them either. The hubs has even mentioned he would like something smaller and of course, a less expensive mortgage.

This would be ideal for me, minus the house on the left, as long as it had over an acre of land and a fence yard and a garage.

Very cute and quaint. Nothing fancy, no frills, just home sweet home.

So as I continue to dream about moving into a smaller home, I’ll continue to love my current Home Sweet Home, and wait until the time is right.

Do you think over time your choice in homes changes? I mean, I’ve always loved log cabin and homes in the country. But somehow when we bought, we ended up in a neighborhood. We didn’t think we’d be there as long as we have but the good old economy has managed to keep us put.

As we grow older, do the things we needed as a 20 or 30-year-old, become less necessary and less important? What are your thoughts?

What is your ideal home or are you currently living in it?
