New York Times bestselling author Shelley Shepard Gray brings us another compelling suspense in her Amish of Hart County series, this time featuring an undercover English DEA agent who will do anything to protect the Amish girl he loves.
Calvin Fisher left the Amish community at fourteen and never looked back. Only his brother’s illness can bring him back to Hart County. Now, as Calvin works to make amends, he meets Alice, a local nursery school teacher, and falls hard for her. But he has a secret that could threaten the happiness he’s finally found.
Alice shouldn’t like—or want—Calvin. He’s English, has a questionable past, and an even more questionable job. Still, she can’t help being intrigued. Though Calvin assures Alice that he’s worthy of her, she’s torn between surrendering to her growing feelings and steering clear of him.
When a sudden surge of criminal activity alarms the community and even targets Alice, Calvin fears that his double life has put everyone he loves at risk. As for Alice, she can’t help but wonder if the brave and honorable man she’s lost her heart to is far more dangerous than she could ever imagine.
As part of the Litfuse Bloggers Program, I was able to join in on the Blog Tour for His Risk: The Amish of Hart County by Shelley Shepard Gray. Unfortunately, the Litfuse Bloggers Program came to an end before I had the opportunity to post my review of the book.
I have always loved Ms. Gray’s writing and had already read book three, so I was very eager to read book four in Shelley Shepard Gray’s Amish of Hart County series, His Risk. As with the other books in this series, even though this is the fourth book it can be read as a stand alone, My bet is that once you’ve read this one, if you haven’t read the others, you’ll go back and read the entire series though!
Calvin Fisher had a hard life and left the Amish community when he was fourteen Now, he is trying hard to redeem himself after what feels like bad choice after bad choice. He really wants to leave the gang life, but knows the other way he can do this is to work with the DEA. Only his brother, Mark’s illness and a phone call from home brings Calvin back to Hart County, located in Horse Cove, Kentucky.
And then there’s Alice Yoder. She is an Amish preschool teacher who leads the normal life of an Amish woman. She might appear as though she’s meek and mild on the outside, but she is not afraid to speak up when necessary. She agrees to house sit for her brother and sister-in-law who live across from Mark. Alice is intrigued by Calvin as she watches him from afar.
His Risk is filled with romance and suspense with an emphasis on the suspense and there is danger involved. Ms. Gray has readers cheering for the romances building and those already alive (not writing a spoiler), and the characters were well written. You will find yourself staying up longer than you should to flip just one more page, until you finally read the last page – way past your weeknight bedtime!
The next book in this series will be Her Fear releasing July 24, 2018, and then I understand the sixth book, His Promise, will be released October 23, 2018! You can bet I’ve pre-ordered Her Fear and will be watching for book 6 in October! (In the meantime, maybe I’ll go back and read books 1 and 2!!)
