Despite having stayed in various chain hotels, I admit I’ve never had a Hilton experience. But one weekend, I luckily had the chance to stay at the Hilton Kuala Lumpur, one of the city’s most sought-after, highly-rated hotels, and I discovered everything it has to offer. Read more…
LOCATION
Hilton Kuala Lumpur is right within the vicinity of KL Sentral, the city’s main multimodal transport hub. As such, it is connected to the monorail, the LRT, and the commuter trains to various parts of the city and beyond. Further, KL Sentral houses the KLIA Ekspres, the fastest way to get to the two KL airport terminals, as well as the in-town check-in facility of the service.
Leisure travelers will like the location of the hotel, for all of the city’s best attractions are within easy reach. Bukit Bintang, KL Bird Park, Chinatown, Dataran Merdeka, the Petronas Towers, and Pasar Seni, among others are merely a few stops by train, while NU Sentral, one of the newest malls in the city, and the National Museum are a few minutes’ walk.
STYLE/CHARACTER
Hilton Hotels & Resorts is on the forefront of the hospitality industry as one of the most recognizable hotel brands, as well as the site of important moments in history. From its first hotel in Dallas, Texas that was opened in 1925 by Conrad Hilton, it now has more than 560 hotels across six continents, and it now shares the Hilton Worldwide portfolio with equally renowned brands as the Waldorf Astoria, Conrad, and DoubleTree by Hilton.
Hilton Kuala Lumpur is the flagship property of Hilton Worldwide in Southeast Asia. What’s unique about is its “urban park design concept,” which was inspired by the city’s green lungs, the Lake Gardens. This relaxing nature-inspired motif is reflected most in their lobby, which follows it through colors, shapes, textures, and structures.
ROOMS
The Executive Room I had was simply yet elegantly decorated, and it had the same vibrant appeal of the hotel’s lobby area. As my room was located on a high floor, it had a spectacular view of the Kuala Lumpur skyline, which looks so lovely at night.
And of course, being Hilton, all the conveniences expected of a five-star hotel are present, starting with The Hilton Bed, which features patented technology that “improves circulation and reduces night time restlessness.” The fragrant bath amenities of Hilton hotels, meanwhile, are by a New York-based brand, Peter Thomas Roth.
FACILITIES
The leisure and business facilities of the Hilton Kuala Lumpur are all huge to accommodate its guests. The swimming pool and the gym are bigger than a lot of those in hotels I’ve been to, including the five star ones.
Since I was staying in one of their executive rooms, I had access to their Executive Lounge, a tastefully-decorated space that offers modest breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening cocktail spreads, as well as all-day refreshments. Business services are available too.
WELLNESS
The Spa & Gym may have been named simply, but its services and its facilities are inviting. One afternoon, I was treated to The Grand Experience, which a back relief massage, scalp massage, foot massage, and tea-infused bath. The therapist assigned to me, clearly adept at her craft, did the entire session well, lulling me to sleep with her soothing strokes and maneuvers.
FOOD AND DRINK
Breakfasts are served at Vasco, the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant. Inspired by explorer Vasco da Gama, the restaurant invites its guests to a “journey of discovery” across its many stations consisting of Western, Asian, and Malaysian food.
SERVICE
Despite being a huge hotel, their staff handled my requests well and saw to it that they were met at once. And each time I come across any staff member, say in the lobby or the corridors, they were pleasantly armed with a smile.
VALUE FOR MONEY
Understandably, nightly rates at the Hilton Kuala Lumpur are quite costly, for after all, it is one of the city’s most luxurious options. But compared to other cities, the Hilton experience when had in Kuala Lumpur is still affordable and resonable.
