This was my third year to attend the show and boy has it slimmed down a lot since my first visit. There were still plenty of foodie highlights, some old and some new, for us to enjoy. They say a picture is worth a thousand words so here are some of the best bits of the Food and Wine Christmas Show 2013.
The Firehouse Bakery was one of my favourites at the show. They had sweet and savoury baked goods as well as filled paninis to take away. I loved the little bread truck!
Jane Russells sausages were a great hit. I had mine smothered in sun-dried tomato mayo along with some onions, it really hit the spot, especially when I paired it with a Brú red ale!
You know you were at the Food and Wine Christmas Show when you open the fridge and a couple of blocks of cheese fall out! I never leave without three or four different cheeses. This year Crozier Blue was a big hit with us.
Hands down Wolfgang Blass was the funniest man at the show. He had us all laughing and applauding in equal measures before leaving in search of some Irish whiskey! I really enjoyed the tasting, I'd never had the Presidents Choice label before, it was very nice!
Tipperary Kitchen had the most Christmasy stand! I love the red reindeer and all the homely decorations. It was like a real kitchen!
Mr Muffin Man was quite popular! The muffins looked fantastic and he had a wide range of flavours, everything from Malteeser to Toblerone!
Perhaps the prettiest stand? Beautiful macaroons from Andrea. Nearly too good looking to eat!
There were quite a few masterclasses that night, we managed to catch Ross Lewis in action. I was really envious of the people chosen to taste the food!
For once I left the show with no wine! I couldn't actually carry any as I had bought this mammoth book! It's a wonderful testament to the food industry in the Louth/Meath area. So many wonderful small producers are featured, it's a real treasure.
Another year over for the Food and Wine Christmas Show, the sparseness of the stalls makes me worry for next years show. It's an event I love and it really kicks off Christmas for me. Fingers crossed for 2014!
