ABSTRACT

Jet lag is a sleep disorder caused by disturbance of internal clock and it is very common in air travelers who travel multiple time zones. It will affect your sleeping pattern which can cause anxiety, confusion, etc. But one can treat these symptoms with the help of some home and herbal remedies. INTRODUCTION

1. Adjusting to The Time Zone Before You Leave

Adjusting your bedtime and wake time to your destination time before your travel is another strategy to beat jet lag. If you are going to the east, it means going to sleep one hour earlier than normal on day one and waking up one hour earlier. On day two, your bedtime would we two hours earlier and wake time would be two hours earlier. On the third day, your bedtime would be three hours earlier and wake time would be three hours earlier. If traveling west your bedtime would be one hour later.

2. Bright Light Therapy

Our circadian rhythm is strongly influenced by light, exposing yourself to bright light at a certain time of day is a powerful way to shift your internal clock. Bright light exposure early in the day may help to get your internal clock in sync with your new time zone. Walk-in sunshine, opening curtains folds or turning on lamps are beneficial.

3. Caffeine and Alcohol Consumption

Caffeine and alcohol consumption may interfere with our sleeping pattern so it's better to avoid caffeine and alcohol consumption in an airplane

4. Avoid Heavy Meals

Eating smaller meals which include protein, fruits and vegetables and avoiding fast foods is beneficial. The energy level will be steady rather than rising or crashing. Drink water to stay hydrated.

5. Exercise

Exercising at 7 A.M. or between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. shifted the circadian rhythm to an earlier time, while engaging in exercise between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. pushes the body clock back.
