Her First Visit to a Psychiatrist

She was distressed, dazed and unable to control her mind. She became hypersensitive and when anyone so much as coughed in her presence and she felt a twisting pain inside. A shocking headache slurred her speech and she was unable to concentrate. Not long afterwards, she started hearing voices. They were mostly hostile. She was overly sensitive to noise and felt that people were being malicious and doing so delibrately. She landed up in a psychiatric hospital but the unwillingness of the doctors, nurses and her family to talk about her symptoms, upset her deeply bcause she knew that they found it shameful. But why? She was suffering from an illness. Wasn’t it like any other illnesses?
