Hello Kitty Scales?

By Rubytuesday
I stumbled upon an article today describing how teeny-tiny piny Hello Kitty scales are on sale in TK Maxx stores around Britain
In a move criticised by campaigners for promoting unhealthy self-awareness, the tiny, bright-pink Hello Kitty scales have been on sale in branches of TK Maxx across Britain
After an outcry from campaigners and the organisation B-eat, TK Maxx removed the scales from their stores last night
However Hello Kitty manufacturers Sanrio defended the product saying 'The scales are not intended to be a statement about weight or body consciousness. We are committed to developing safe and enjoyable products for our fans'
Well in this case Sanrio, your fans are innocent little girls
How utterly pathetic that you would encourage children to measure their worth in pound and ounces
I don't get angry very often but this really does make my blood boil
Children should be allowed to enjoy their childhood
There is plenty of time when they are adults to worry about weight and shape and body image
Every year younger and younger children are being treated for eating disorders
What chance do our children have if their favorite brand encourages them to weigh themselves
Hello Kitty?
It's Goodbye Kitty from me!
