I pack my lunch every week, every Monday through Friday for several reasons: (1) it's WAY cheaper; and (2) I make better food choices when I pack my lunch. I started getting so burned out on salads every week, so recently I switched it up. Every Sundays evening, I cut up 3 or 4 peppers (orange, yellow, and/or red), a package of green onions, and a 3-pack of English cucumbers. It seems I've found a perfect combination of veggies that I'm not getting bored with while I am in training for a full marathon near the end of the year. There have been a few times where I've forgotten to bring dressing with me. I don't mind eating the veggies plain, but it's even easier to eat them with a bit of healthy dressing.
When I saw the Healthy Salad to Go Containers (Set of 2) being offered for review, I signed up thinking it would be a nice way to carry everything to work at once. I was very happy when they arrived - they looked very cool and I was super excited to start using them. The very first Sunday that came up, I cut up my veggies as usual. Instead of putting them in five plastic containers, I measured and filled the two Healthy Salad to Go Containers and filled up the dressing containers and popped them in the refrigerator. I put the rest of the mixture in a large container and figured I would divvy it up as I cleaned the used Healthy Salad to Go Containers.
I put the two filled Healthy Salad to Go Containers in the refrigerator on Sunday night. On Monday morning, I grabbed one filled Healthy Salad to Go Container, put it in my bag and headed out the door. I put my bag in the backseat and drove to work. When I got to work, I reached in my bag to get the Healthy Salad to Go Container to put it in the refrigerator until lunchtime. Unfortunately, the lid to the dressing container doesn't snap or screw in very securely and the dressing was leaking all over the bottom of my bag. I was very disappointed as I cleaned up the big greasy Italian dressing mess on the bottom of my bag.
The next day, I grabbed the second filled Healthy Salad to Go Container and placed it in the section of my bag that holds water bottles. I had no leaking that day since the container remained upright. I think these containers would be great for fruit salads - you'd have the fork and you could use the top container for salt packets or something. I'll have to try that the next time I use the Healthy Salad to Go Containers.
