Health Benefits of Blackberries

Not only are blackberries simply delicious, they are also quite rich in healthy ingredients and antioxidants that protect the body from harmful effect of free radicals, that are the main culprits of several serious health problems. But the list of health benefits of blackberries is quite larger, including better digestive health, strengthened immune defense, healthy functioning of heart, prevention of cancer and relief from endothelial dysfunction.

Blackberries contain a abundant amount of strong antioxidant which protects the body in a vast number of ways.  Components such as phenolic acids, flavonoids and flavonols and peculiarly anthocyanosides existing  in blackberries work against the harmful oxygen free molecules and counteract their action.

They protect the body from a range of diseases caused as consequence of oxidative damage which may be the underlying cause of many fatal conditions.

Blackberries are rich in micronutrients, which have chemopreventive effect and prevents the proliferation of malignant cells. Due to this, blackberries can be quite effective against the development of cancer including lung cancer, colon cancer and esophageal cancer. According to vast number of researches and studies, the presence  of anthocyanins and other phytochemicals such as ellagic acid and cyaniding-3-glucoside discourage tumor growth and metastasis.

Blackberries provide a great defense from endothelial dysfunction , aabnormal functioning of inner lining of blood vessels. Recent researches have shown that blackberries contain useful components such as cyaniding-3-O-glucoside which fights the oxidative activity. Not only does it help in  the process of normalizing multiple critical factors implicated in such conditions, but it also  helps in reducing the DNA damage .

Moreover, the vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and fiber in blackberries lower the risk for developing a  heart disease. Potential mechanisms for this decreased risk include limiting inflammation and oxidative stress through an increase in antioxidants in the blood and restricting the proliferation of cholesterol in the arteries due to  the anthocyanin content of the berries.
