Started in London by two Americans in 1979, the Hard Rock Cafe has come a long way since then. It has made its presence in 59 countries in the form of 145 cafes, 21 hotels and 10 casinos (Courtesy Wikipedia).
It’s a theme based café characterized by walls covered withrock and rollmemorabilia. The Delhi outlet is no different. It’s not as much about the food as much as it’s about the ambience and feel of the place. When we went there for a bloggers meet we were delighted to see the live screening of a U2 concert. They have launched a wide array of Mojitos as a part of their summer menu. The Chef introduced us all the Mojitos that they had on offer one by one. All of them were prepared using colourful blend of fruits. The various Mojitos on offer were:Tender CoconutMalta Orange and VanillaGreen AppleKiwiLycheeStrawberryPineapple and Dark CaramelIt came as a bit of a surprise that they did not go for flavours like Mango and Watermelon which are the norm in every summer menu. We had to choose one to drink after the Chef took his time to explain how each one of them was prepared. It was a difficult choice but I finally opted for Lychee as it’s my favorite fruit after mango. As a Mojito it was brilliant and had the perfect temperature and perfect sweetness. But the flavor of Lychee was somewhere missing in the drink, maybe because there were many other fruits apart from Lychee in it. The second Mojito I tried was Tender Coconut. It was very good and had a unique flavor as coconut water was used instead of the regular soda. All the Mojitos were prepared using Bacardi Carta Blanca Rum.
All the snacks were served on the table and were shared by all of us. We were served Red Hot Chilli Fries, Veggie Belly Burger, Falafel Fiesta, The Ultimate Veggie Hoagie, The Soul Burger and Mamma Mia Chicken Sandwich.
I tried only a few things out of these. The Red Hot Chilli Fries were excellent. They were topped with molten cheddar cheese and fresh tomato salsa. They were spicy, cheesy and tangy, simply perfect. Then I tried the Soul Burger. It was humongous and was served divided in two halves. The manager told me that their burgers are really popular and they will continue to serve them while rest of the menu will be completely changed at the end of this season. This particular burger had a tenderloin patty, pizza sauce, swiss cheese and pepperoni. It seemed like coming straight from the heaven, but with an invitation card. The taste of the tenderloin patty was fine, but the pepperoni added the real flavor. Overall the burger was nice. The potato wedges served with it were really good.
I also tried Falafel Fiesta. It was basically falafel wrapped in tortilla with a few Arabic spices, hummus, mayo, lettuce and pickled veggies. It tasted nice but could have been moister. I also tried Mamma Mia Chicken sandwich. It was more like a burger with a patty made from grilled chicken breast. It had a good flavor of Italian herbs and to add to the flavours it also had sliced cheddar cheese, olive tapenade and smoky chipotle spiced sundried tomato aioli. Overall it had a good Italian flavor and tasted good.
Hard Rock Cafe, being true to its name, is a rocking place. Not only the atmosphere but the food rocks too. The Mojitos are simply brilliant. I could try only two but I saw my fellow bloggers going gaga over the other ones as well. In this summer heat, a visit to this place is surely to leave you satisfied.
