I remember that afternoon, when I walked into the hospital , full of dread, at the thought of what lay ahead.
I remember how the anesthesiologist was commenting about the weather and discussing the prospects of an upcoming holiday in the Andamans with the Gynecologist.
I remember how the nursing assistant held up a messy bundle in a red blanket ,howling his lungs out for me to see...
Such a tiny bundle of joy.
I remember you in my arms , with that cannula on your left hand.
I was more frightened of hurting you than stretching my stitches .
And when I brought you home...we learned it all together.
You fell and scraped your knee on your first birthday...you were running as fast as the toy cars you raced.
And I remember , I left everything and ran to you in my high heels and silk sari...
And your dad said that I'd never do that for him...
I wouldn't.
But I'd sit up and do whatever it takes to be with you and make sure you are safe and happy.
And I'd make that same Analog Controller Cake ,again and again and again for you.
Because sweet child of mine, your happiness drives away my pain.
It's not perfect this time...
I've probably done bigger and better for you, and god willing, will do even more.
