Halloween Recipe: Vampire Blood Shots

By Bigcitylittleblog @feakins

if there's one time out of the year when you can push boundaries and let your freak flag fly, it's Halloween. The spooky holiday is one of my favorites as I love to dress up and have fun with DIY. This year, Cassie is throwing a Halloween/Housewarming bash at her new crib, and she's pulling out all the stops. To help her out, I offered to make these creepy sangria shots. Inspired by Scary Mommy's Vampire Vodka, I purchased medical syringes from Amazon.com and created a Blood Sangria Recipe adapted from a recipe by Bobby Flay. Here's the scoop:

Halloween Recipe: Vampire Blood Shots What You'll Need:
  • 50 60ml oral or catheter medical syringes without the needles (available here)
  • 1 750ml bottle of red wine (I used Cabernet)
  • 2 cups pomegranate juice
  • ¼ cup Triple Sec or Cointreau
  • 1 1/2 cup Peach Brandy
  • 1 cup Apple Brandy Liquor (I used Laird's Apple Jack)
  • 1/4 cup sugar-free simple syrup (equal amounts Truvia and water, heated until the stevia dissolves, and cooled.)
Halloween Recipe: Vampire Blood Shots Directions

In a large pitcher, stir together in wine, pomegranate juice, Triple Sec, Peach and Apple Liquors. Leave in the refrigerator for a minimum of 4 hours or even better- overnight. When you're ready to serve, fill each syringe to 40-ml, which is a typically shot serving. Cap it so they don't leak, and serve in a large punch bowl full of ice.
