Hai There!

By Yonni @vegandthecity
Hai There!I have been traveling like crazy...honestly, I think more than I ever have in my entire life.  Every weekend has been something else - Vermont, the Berkshires, Atlantic City, plus 5 days in Florida on business and a week in LA (half business, half pleasure.)  I literally have not spent a weekend at home since New Year's Eve.  To top it off, just as I arrived at JFK from LAX, my husband picked me up and we headed to Phillie to celebrate the bat mitzvah of the daughter of one of my best friends from college (go GWU!)
Hai There! Now that I'm back, I'm trying to get back into a schedule, not to mention figuring out what time zone or state I'm in.  I know exhaustion is a state, and one I have been trying to avoid.  Nothing like switching your clocks and heading to a party!  It was a great time though.  I woke up Sunday though knowing it was game on - time for me to go back to eating right (nothing like a conference to screw up your habits,) exercising and catching up on some much needed sleep.

I started off on the right note.  After a delicious, vegetable hash at the Four Seasons (I avoided most of the potatoes and stuck to the veggies,) chased by a full pot of coffee with soy milk to help me jumpstart, I stumbled upon Hai Street Kitchen.  I had never heard of this London and Philadelphia quick spot, before but it was just what the doctor ordered.

Hai There!Hai is not vegan, but it is fresh, and quick and very cool.  You get your choice of a rice wrap or a rice or salad bowl.  That is just the first of many options from which you can choose. They do not have vegan protein, so I used grilled zucchini as the primary ingredient atop shredded romaine.  To that I added red cabbage, shredded carrots, sprinkles of fried garlic, fried shallots, tempura crunch and roasted peanuts.  I topped it all off with a spicy peanut dressing.  Not only was it gorgeous, but it was fabulous!  And yes, despite those little fried crunch nuggets, it was healthy.  You can see those little dots sprinkled atop the zucchini - a lot of added flavor, but not a lot of added calories.
If you happen to find yourself in downtown Phillie, or in London (even better,) check it out.  And if you can, I definitely recommend a night at the Four Seasons while you're at it...
