Haflong- the Switzerland of East India

HAFLONG- THE SWITZERLAND OF EAST INDIA Haflong is one of the best hill stations of Northern India and the tourists who visit the place are usually attracted with its blue hills, rivers, extravagant lakeside resorts, beautiful orchids and greenery and so signified it to be “The Switzerland of East India”. Haflong is situated 680 m above the sea level and it is this location which makes it a perfect hill station.  On exploring the surroundings of the place you will definitely realize, how nature has gifted the place with such natural beauty.
MAJOR ATTRACTIONS HAFLONG LAKE: Located in the heart of the city, the Haflong Lake is very famous for its scenic beauty and mesmerizing surroundings. In fact, it is so beautiful that it is known to be “the Scotland of Assam” and can be enjoyed as a perfect picnic spot or as a day out with your family. You can also enjoy boating here.

JATINGA: Jatinga is known to be a bird watcher’s heaven as especially in the months of August and November there are vivid variety of migratory birds who visit Jatinga which is on the Silchar road that is about 20km towards the south of Silchar.

MALIBONG: Malibong is very famous as a picturesque attraction and is located just 72 kms from Haflong. You should definitely visit the place when in Haflong as such is the scenic beauty of the place that you will be able to cherish it all your life. 

BORAIL WIDLIFE SANCTUARY: If you have that urge to experience wildlife then the Borail wildlife Sanctuary which is spread over an area of 326.24 sq kms is the perfect place to be.

•When in Haflong do make it a point to buy the famous wooden handicrafts which are made from the wood of bamboo.
•Do shop the silk textiles as well, as Haflong is very famous for it.
•Haflong provides you with limited eating options, so plan in advance as to where you will be eating while you are on the trip.
•Do not forget to take your cameras and handy-cams so as to capture the natural beauty of the place.
You can indulge yourself in many interesting activities when in Haflong which includes boating at the Haflong Lake, taking pictures, videos etc. You can visit several picnic spots as well. However, there are several attractions in Haflong where you can indulge in the scenic beauty of the place for hours together. 
The closest state highway to Haflong is the one which leads to Silchar.
By Air: The airports of Shilong and Tulihal are the nearest ones to reach Haflong.
By Railways: The railway station which is the nearest to the Haflong is the Guwahati Railway Station.

By Road: You can use buses to visit Haflong as there are a number of buses which on regular basis move to and fro the state of Assam. You can opt for private buses and taxis, as per your will and wish to reach Haflong as well.


If you want to make the most of Haflong then you will have to visit in the months of October to April.
