Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Lotion Review

By Eggskingoals

Hada Labo products are getting really popular from the past couple of years in Western market. Hada Labo is a Japanese company, which was introduced in 2004. Hyaluronuc Acid lotion is one of the best selling products from that brand and the company claims that, one Hada Labo lotion is being sold for every 2 seconds.

What is Hyaluronic Acid? Hyaluronic Acid (HA), also known as hyaluronan or hyaluronate, is a carbohydrate, more specifically a mucopolysaccharide occurring naturally throughout the human body. It binds to water giving it a stiff viscous quality similar to "Jello". This viscous Gel is one of the most heavily researched substances in medicine today with thousands of trials mostly in the fields of orthopedics and eye surgery. Its function in the body is, amongst other things, to bind water and to lubricate movable parts of the body, such as joints and muscles. Its consistency and tissue-friendliness allows it to be beneficial in skin-care products as an excellent moisturizer. Because HA is one of the most hydrophilic (water-loving) molecules in nature with numerous benefits for the human body it can be described as "nature's moisturizer". Although Hyaluronic Acid (HA) can be found naturally in most every cell in the body, it is found in the greatest concentrations in the skin tissue. Almost 50% of the bodies HA is found here. It is found in both the deep underlying dermal areas as well as the visible epidermal top layers. Young skin is smooth and elastic and contains large amounts of HA that helps keep the skin stay young and healthy. The HA provides continous moisture to skin by binding up to 1000 times its weight in water. With age, the ability of the skin to produce HA decreases.

So, as the production of HA decreases with age, skin looses its elasticity, which results in wrinkles and fine lines.

In Japan, toners are often referred as lotions, but unlike western toners, these lotions are meant to have hydrating properties rather than cleansing properties. Also, these are to be applied with hands rather than a cotton pad. To know more about the application of Japanese toners, watch the below video.

Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Lotion Review

Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Lotion($15 for 170 ml) claims to give instant hydration to the skin, and makes skin smooth and supple for a long time. It comes in a white colored bottle with 170 ml of lotion in it. The bottle has flip cap and has a tiny hole, which dispenses one drop at a time. It has liquid like consistency, and absorbs easily into the skin. Only three drops of lotion is enough for my entire face. I have used more than three drops once, five drops to be exact, and my face felt sticky, and has taken a lot of time for it to absorb into the skin.

After applying, gently press your palms on the face for maximum absorption. My skin will always feel hydrated immediately after applying this lotion. It makes my skin smooth, and also helps to absorb the serums, and creams, that I apply after this lotion, well into the skin. Using sheet masks, after applying HA lotion gives me immense satisfaction. Because of its water binding properties, it absorbs the serum in the sheet masks and delivers it to the deeper layers of the skin. This makes the results of sheet mask more effective. 🙂

Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Lotion Review

This has been a life-changing product for my dry, and acne/eczema prone skin. My skin does not look flaky any more. It stays supple for the whole day. Previously, my skin used to look dull and dry by the mid-day. But now, it feels more alive, and bouncy. 🙂

There is an other version of Hada Labo Hyaluronic Acid lotion also available for the oily skin people or to use in summer. It is called as Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Lotion Light. Just look for the green color at the bottom of the bottle.

Do you use Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Lotion too? Or do you have any other favourites from that brand?
