Close on the heels of the recently announced Romance Screenwriters’ Lab, NFDC Labs confirms writer/directors, Habib Faisal and Bhavani Iyer as mentors, where the third will be declared soon. The lab, a three-part workshop, is inviting romance and women-centric genre stories, the deadline for submissions being May 23 2014.
Habib Faisal is a screenwriter and director based out of Mumbai, best known for his films Ishaqzaade and Do Dooni Chaar (writer and director for both) and Band Baaja Baarat (screenplay and dialogues). Habib’s forthcoming film is titled Daawat-e-Ishq starring Aditya Roy Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra. Other noted works include Ladies vs. Ricky Bahl (dialogue), Salaam Namaste (co-writer and screenplay), Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (screenplay and dialogues).
Bhavani Iyer’s first film as a writer was Black, she then went on to collaborate for Main Aisa Hi Hoon, Swami, Guzaarish, Lootera and the Indian version of the American TV show 24. Her upcoming projects include Ashutosh Gowariker’s TV show Everest and films in various stages of pre-production.
For the parallely scheduled Harlequin lab, Ashok Banker (Ramayana series) and Shoma Narayanan (Secrets & Sarees, Monsoon Wedding Fever) will be mentoring and working with the participants on scripts. Post this lab, Harlequin will offer book deals to four best scripts.
Labs Schedule: 27 – 31 July; September (dates as decided by the participants and the mentors); and 16 – 20 November.
