Television season finales used to tinge my world gray because it meant no more of my fave characters for at least 4 – 5 months. And it is easy to get emotionally invested with these shows and the lives portrayed – (any Grey’s fans upset after last night’s finale?)
I was so excited at the beginning of the season that there not one, but two shows dealing with fairy tales – Grimm, a police drama with a detective charged with the responsibility of being the new “Grimm” when his aunt and caretaker dies. The Grimm is like a criminal profiler of a subset population. The Grimm Fairy Tales were not made up stories; rather they were warnings passed down from generation to generation to protect us from the monsters out there. This NBC drama keeps us firmly planted in the now time while integrating the Grimms Brothers Fairy Tale “warning” throughout each episode.
Det Burkhardt + Grimm and Hank, his partner
By day ~ attorney
By night ~ scary monster
Then there is “Once Upon a Time” a drama about Snow White and Prince Charming’s stolen daughter, now all grown up. Abandoned as a baby, Emma has taken care of herself for 28 years when her own son, age 10, comes searching for her. She does not believe his story of who he thinks she is; however, she does go with him to Storybrooke, Maine where she finds things are not all that they seem. A combination of fantasy and reality, this ABC drama gives air time to both worlds – today and the magical era of fairy tale time.
I was thrilled to learn that all the shows I watch have been renewed, including both “Grimm” and “Once Upon a Time.” I have a confession though – I’ve watched a couple of episodes of “Once Upon a Time” and did not like it. I’m so enamored with “Grimm” and the shadowy world of monsters living in our midst as normal people. Hmmm, wonder what that says about me! Actually you can find out what creature you may be by completing this fun quiz! According to the quiz, I’m a Jagarbar…gruesome looking creature that is generally a decent citizen!
How about you? Are you a fan of “Grimm?” “Once Upon a Time?” both? Any shows you’re anxious to see return or disappointed it was canceled?
