Green Cleaning DIY: Lemon Vinegar All-Purpose Liquid / Disinsfectant

Lemon and vinegar are safe, natural and effective all-purpose cleanser and disinfectant. You can use either as both has high acidity, but combined, they carry a powerful punch in killing most of the bacteria in your house, particularly in the dirtiest part of your home: the kitchen and the bathroom.

It’s very easy to make and very economical, there’s no need to spend a lot for different kinds of cleansers that mostly are just harmful to us as well as the environment.

Here’s the step by step:

Step 1: Slice off the peel (yellow skin) from your used lemons.

Step 2: Make sure to remove as much of those pith or white flesh.

Step 3: Slice the lemon peels thinly and place inside a bottle. As you can see, I reused a glass bottle of Bundaberg.

As much as possible, I try to reuse and repurpose things. I actually have quite a collection of different bottles and jars of Sola, Starbucks and even baby food jars.

Step 4: Fill bottle with white vinegar or sukang puti as we know it. I use Silver Swan because it’s pure, plain vinegar unlike the other brands that has salt and coloring in them.

Step 5: Let the concoction sit for several days before using and shake once in a while.

This is the Lemon Vinegar after 5 days, the vinegar has already absorbed the lemon oils thus the yellow tint and the lemony scent!

You may opt to transfer the liquid to a spray bottle if you have, just leave the lemon peels in the bottle and refill again with vinegar.

To use: Spray on surfaces and air dry or you may use a sponge and wipe to clean and disinfect. If areas like the sink / kitchen counters or floors need a bit of scrubbing, you may use a hot, soapy water first to clean and then finish off with the lemon vinegar to disinfect.

Other uses:
- As fruits and vegetable rinse. In a bowl, pour a capful of lemon vinegar. Let sit for at not more than 3 minutes, scrub to remove wax residues (from some fruits) then rinse.

-Disinfectant for babies eating utensils that are not sterilizer-safe as well as toys. For the utensils, just add a few drops of lemon vinegar to a bowl filled with water then soak for a few minutes. For the toys, spray the solution directly (for wood or plastics only as it may stain plush toys) then wipe with a cloth.

-Toilet deodorizer. Pour a capful to get rid of smell.

-Toilet seat sanitizer.

I’m so sure you’ll love this. It will change your life! Lalo na yung mga OC maglinis or yung mga germphobic like me, ayyyyy this is for you my friend!

By the way, since this concoction is potent, you may dilute it with a little water if you wish. At pag nakalahati mo na yung bote, you can just refill again with white vinegar. Ok?

Happy cleaning!
