Google acquired this robot earlier in the year when it purchased the Japanese robotics company Schaft.
According to The New York Times Google has purchased Boston Dynamics, an engineering company that builds mobile and biomimetic robots for the Pentagon. It’s the eighth robotics company purchased by Google in the last 6 months but by far the creepiest. Remember robo-cheetah, the four legged cat-shaped hell beast that runs faster than the fastest recorded human runner, which the government hopes will one day help with military operations? Yeah, your go-to search engine owns that shit now.
It’s unclear exactly what Google intends to do with all the robot technology it is acquiring. Let’s just hope that it’s all-encompassing data processing and fancy algorithms, which are designed to predict human behavior, don’t get uploaded into the company’s new animal kingdom of terminator prototypes. In the very near future the verb-form of Google may very well come to mean “to destroy all carbon-based bipeds of the resistance.”
