Backroad Mapbooks has a great opportunity for someone eager to work in a geospatial development environment. We are seeking an exceptional team player who is passionate about maps, adventure activities, and looking for a great place to work and grow with the company.
Working in our Coquitlam, BC office and reporting to the GIS Department Manager, the successful applicant will be responsible for developing new GIS products and using their knowledge of database and systems design, software engineering and geomatics to enhance our spatial data tools and infrastructure in support of our expanding product lines. Excellent computer aptitude, multitasking, database management, programming skills, organizational and reporting skills are key components of this position.
Key Knowledge Requirements – Geographic Information Systems
- (Enterprise) Spatial database design and development including relational database modeling, data management, security and performance tuning/monitoring
- Python programming, ArcGIS Modelbuilder and geo-processing and tools
- Spatial server technologies such as Geoserver and Mapserver
Key Knowledge Requirements – Software Development
- Experience developing in some or all of Python, SQL, C++, .NET, JS, Flex, Java, PERL, HTML5, Web Mapping, mobile development frameworks
- Technical writing/documentation including code commenting, systems design and technical specifications
Prerequisites:
- Minimum of a Masters Degree in GIS, Computer Science/Engineering, or related field
- 3+ years experience in GIS development
- Must be a self-starter with a high level of initiative, assertiveness, sense of urgency and accountability
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Familiarity with consumer GPS devices a bonus
