Brighton Smith doesn’t do outrageous. As an insurance actuary, it’s her job to assess risk and avoid bad investments. But when her fiancé calls to confess he’s married someone else on a whim (“I looked at her and I just knew!”), she snaps…
That night, at a local bar, Jake Sorensen—hot, rich, and way out of her league—buys Brighton a cocktail. At midnight, she kisses him. And by dawn, they’re exchanging vows at a drive-through chapel.
Brighton knows Jake is a bad bet, but she doesn’t care. After a lifetime of playing it safe, she’s finally having fun. Until the whirlwind romance gives way to painful reality…and Brighton finds out the truth about why a guy like Jake married a girl like her. With her heart on the line and the odds stacked against them, Brighton must decide whether to cut her losses or take a leap of faith that this love affair is one in a million.
In all honesty, it’s been quite some time since I read a book like this – light, airy, fast paced, romantic – Chick Lit at it’s finest, for sure! The author, Beth Kendrick really knows her stuff too! I stayed up way too late to read “just another page” that turned into three-quarters of the book, in the middle of the night on a work day! UGH!
This book is set in a fictional scenic beach town in Delaware called Black Dog Bay. The town is fun and the characters in it are too! While this is the third book in the Black Dog Bay series, it was my first, but that didn’t deter me whatsoever. Apparently these books all read as stand alones so you can read each one, in any order, or only one, and not miss out on a great story.
Put a Ring On It shares with her readers the main character, Brighton Smith, who unlike her artsty/wishy-washy mother, is an insurance actuary working in the corporate world because she has a “ten year plan”. She’s engaged to a guy who can’t seem to pass the attorney bar exam despite several attempts. They have a falling out while driving in the car and in the silence afterwards, Brighton decides to head out to Black Dog Bay to visit an old friend and regroup.
When Brighton meets up with her friend, she meets the handsome and womanizing single man in town, Jake Sorenson. When Brighton receives a phone call from her ex-fiance telling her he married someone else that he just met, Brighton snaps. She overindulges in alcohol while flirting with Jake, which then spirals into a private jet trip to Vegas exchanging vows at a drive-through chapel! All the while, Brighton is getting back at her ex, snapping pictures of the whole grand affair and texting them to her ex!
This book was definitely a quick read, but didn’t fail to include lots of fun, romance and jewelry! Throwing in a dog custody issue along with lots of secrets that reveal throughout the book, the author Beth Kendrick keeps our attention cover to cover. In all honesty, I’ve never read any of Beth Kendrick’s other books, but I definitely want to go back and read books #1 and #2 in this series! Dogs and love stories mixed together always have me interested!
I give this book a 5 star review!
About Beth Kendrick: Author of twelve women’s fiction novels, including the Black Dog Bay series and “Nearlyweds,” which was turned into a Hallmark Channel original movie. Loves rescue dogs, red wine, and the Chicago Cubs.
After growing up with a purebred Bernese Mountain dog, Beth Kendrick fell in love with a scruffy stray terrier named Murphy and has been a sucker for rescue dogs ever since. She lives in Arizona with her family and two rambunctious red mutts named Roxie and Friday. Despite owning three vacuum cleaners, she is constantly covered in dog hair.
I received a complimentary paperback copy of this book from the publishers and BookSparks as part of the BookSparks 2015 Fall Reading Challenge and the BookSparks “Girl’s Best Friend Blog Tour” in exchange for this post, which is my honest review and unbiased opinion.
