Gay Activists: Make TV 42% Gay

Posted on the 30 December 2013 by Calvinthedog

Here.

As a liberal, of course, I can’t stand Brent Bozell, who wrote that nasty piece, but the GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) folks do seem to be out of control. GLAAD is basically the gay Hollywood crowd. Fox Network was applauded for having gay characters in 42% of its programming hours. Even that did not get an excellent rating from GLAAD. Instead it got only a “good rating.”

A 2011 survey showed that most Americans believe that 25% of the population is gay. Obviously, that’s completely insane, but it did seem that way when I was working in Beverly Hills at one time. The real number is ~3%. So how did Americans get that crazy idea that 1/4 of us are gay? I would assume they got it from TV.

How much programming should feature gay characters? How about if they are shown in proportion to their population, eh? If they are ~3% of the population, how about if gay characters appear in 3% of the programming hours?

Or I suppose for every hour of programming, we could have gay characters show up for 3 minutes of that hour. That might be fair too. It seems nutty to portray this sort of thing as much more common that it really is. What’s the point of that? What’s GLAAD’s real agenda anyway? Color me suspicious.
