As I’ve mentioned before on the blog, Little Mr A loves computer games. I think this is mainly down to having a Daddy who is a big gamer!
For Christmas this year he has asked for the new Skylanders Swapforce game which Santa will be bringing him (should he behave!). It has made me think though about what other gaming gadgets are out there? Although I know a little about Playstations, Wii’s etc, I am still quite naive when it comes to gaming. Whatever Big Mr A tells me goes in one ear and out the other! I don’t tend to take a lot in!
Because Little Mr A is still quite young I don’t just want him sitting on his bum playing mind numbing computer games so do try and look for games that will be educational but that he will still perceive as ‘fun’. This is where I think tablets are great. There are so many games available that are educational and help with numbers, letters and even fine motor skills. Little Mr A has been playing games on our tablets and phones since he was very small and loved all of the jigsaw games. Whenever he has computer time he either plays on the LEGO games or Reading Eggs/Bug Club which are really helping him with his reading.
When it comes to having time on the Playstation this is where I feel the educational side falls down and it is more a reward for him when he has been really good or as something he can sit and spend a bit of time with Daddy doing.
Big Mr A has been getting very excited these past couple of weeks telling me all about the new consoles that are being released; the Xbox One and Playstation 4. I have had a look into the differences between them although can’t see us investing in one until the prices come down a bit! One of the things I do like about these new consoles, particularly the Xbox is the games that you have to be active to play, i.e. using the Kinnect. Because Little Mr A is not a big outdoor lover it is great getting him on a game where he has to stand up and move around to play, rather than just sitting on his bum and the only exercise being for his hands!
If we did decide to buy one of the new consoles though I know Big Mr A would want a better TV specifically for gaming! A HD TV would be a must to optimize the games and obviously it would need to be nice and big!
There are also lots of gadgets including controllers, headsets, chairs etc. that you can purchase alongside consoles these days. One of Big Mr A’s most prized possessions is his headset for his Playstation. He plays games for the social aspect a lot as his best friend doesn’t live near to us so they play and chat at the same time! It is good to see that there are new PS4 gaming headsets being released in case we do change our mind and decide to purchase one!
If you have gaming mad people to buy for this Christmas there is certainly a lot of choice out there!
