Gaining Independence at Meal Time with OXO Tots

By Mummyoftwo @RaspberryGiggle

Little Miss A recently received a couple of great new products from the OXO Tots range. I have seen other people rave about these products but we hadn't actually tried any yet so I was excited to see what all of the fuss was about!

First up we received the fork and spoon set in Raspberry. The set has generous handles which are soft and have non-slip grips. They are shaped and sized perfectly to fit little hands. As well as being easy to grip, they also have a flat spot on the handle to prevent them from rolling on the floor (although they can still end up there when thrown!!).

Little Miss A was doing OK with feeding herself before this set arrived, however, we were struggling a little to find the right cutlery for her. We had tried all sorts of different sets but none were really right and she would often tip food down herself rather than getting it into her mouth.

I have to say that this set is amazing! Little Miss A took to it right away and has been managing to feed herself almost perfectly with it. It has made mealtimes a lot easier and meant that I can now eat a hot meal rather than having to help her out all of the time!

The quality of the set is also great. The cutlery feels very strong and hardwearing and has washed really well with no signs of fading to the gorgeous raspberry handles at all.

The set is suitable for children aged 12 months and over and is dishwasher safe (if only we had one!). It is available in four colours, green, orange, aqua and raspberry.

I would certainly recommend this to anyone with a young child who is trying to feed themselves.

Next up we received the training cup, also in raspberry. These cups are designed to help ease the transition from a sippy cup to a regular cup by having a translucent lid insert with holes around the outside which helps to control the flow of liquid when your child tips the cup up to drink.

When your little one is ready you can remove the insert and use as a regular cup. As with the cutlery, the training cup has soft, non-slip grips making it very easy for little hands to hold.

Again this product is suitable from 12 months + (if you are brave enough!). I have to confess we have only used this cup a couple of times. The problem is Little Miss A is a thrower. When sitting at the table she will throw anything on the floor when she has finished with it. This includes cups! That is fine with a normal sippy cup as they are non-spill, however, after a rather large spilling incident when this cup was thrown on the floor I have decided to leave it a while longer before we start using it regularly.

The first time we used the cup Little Miss A loved it. She sat and drank nearly the entire cup in one go with very little spillage, just a few dribbles down her front. She obviously lulled me into a false sense of security as it was the next night she threw it on the floor!

I do really like the design of this cup and think it is a great way to introduce your child to normal cups without them being able to tip it all over themselves. It is very durable and easy to clean. I can see us using this a lot in the coming months as Little Miss A learns not to throw it on the floor!

Overall I am really impressed by the OXO Tots range and I will certainly be looking out for it in the future.
