Gadsar Lake

Gadsar Lake Positioned at an outstanding height of 5000m above sea level, the Gadsar Lake is
one of the most exotic lakes of the Kashmir Valley. It is quite different from the other lakes as it encompasses an enormous spread of flowers.

 Renowned as the Valley of Flowers, the Gadsar Lake is truly one of the divine forms of heavenly exquisiteness on earth. The Lake captivates innumerable tourists every year, thereby spreading its fragrance throughout the world. 

Importance

Sited at a distance of about 28kms from the very famed Sonamarg, the Gadsar Lake is placed in the bountiful lap of the mighty Himalayas. Its importance arises from the fact that it is the highest altitude lake of the Kashmir Valley. In Kashmiri, the very meaning of the word Gadsar is the lake of fishes. 

As depicted by the name, we imagine its richness in fishes. Expanding up to a distance of about 0.85 kms, the lake broadens itself for a 0.76km; the Gadsar Lake is a very popular site for fishing. Brown-trout fishing is a fashionable motion amongst the tourists visiting this lake. Besides this, the lake is extremely popular for trekking,

Some of the mere attractions of the Gadsar Lake are angling, trout fishing and brown coloured game fishes.

In addition to that, the Gadsar Lake is one of the hotspots for photography. Anybody would love to take a shot of this Valley of flowers. Nobody abandons the Gadsar Lake without capturing its gorgeousness. 

Also known as the Yemsar Lake, the Gadsar Lake attracts tourists from both national and international level. Pinpointed at a distance of about 28kms from Sonamarg, the Gadsar Lake feels special to stay under the shade of Sonamarg. As seen from its name, Sonamarg means the meadow of gold. 

This meadow of gold encloses this meadow of flowers, thereby presenting a mind blasting collaboration of gold and flowers, producing golden flowers. Thus we can imagine the gorgeousness that the Gadsar Lake presents to the world. Now such a heavenly view must be witnessed.

Best time to visit

One can visit the months between the months of June and September as the lake abounds with such lovely flowers that take you into a totally different world. It is difficult to access the Lake during the other months of the year as it would be wrapped in snow. One can also view the floating icebergs during summers, which is truly a sight to behold. 

How to reach Gadsar Lake, Sonamarg

By Air- One of the simplest ways of accessing Sonamarg is by air. Located at a distance of about 80kms from the Srinagar International Airport, Sonamarg is well connected to different parts of the Kashmir Valley. 

By Rail- One can also reach Sonamarg via railways. The nearest railway station is at Srinagar which is 80kms from Sonamarg. From here one can hire local taxi in order to reach Sonamarg and from there one can enjoy trekking to Gadsar Lake. 

By Road-Sonamarg is well connected to the other places of the northern state of Jammu and Kashmir via roads. Roads are one of the fastest and easiest ways to reach Sonamarg. One needs to cover a distance of about 370km to reach Jammu via roadways.

 Extraordinary lavish buses will also be accessible from Jammu and Srinagar to Sonamarg. Once you reach Sonmarg via roadways, one can plan for a trek to reach this picturesque, magnificent and mind-blogging lake.
