Puff Pastry.729 layers. Well ,atleast according to the Emirates Airlines advertisements it does ,but according to me ,it has as many layers as the maker has patience. OK exponentially. All you have to do is cross. When I first started baking, I made my share of puff pastry and croissants. Now, when everything is available in the market ...readymade ,puff pastry...its easier to roll out and shape. And have a little fun with.Ready made puff pastry is available at our local Bharti Walmart Best Price, other Gourmet food Stores or your local Bakery.Just tell them that you want cross atta with butter.I made mushroom filled patties ,garlic rolls and a Pizza Weave Patty.
All that you need is minimal amount of butter ,lots of garlic green or otherwise, pizza sauce ,cheese slices and some beaten egg or milk to wash before baking.
Can you see the flakiness?
Presentation.
Slice with a sharp knife.
All you need for creating some PUFF PASTRY MAGIC is
500 gms of ready Puff Pastry.
Ready prepared Pizza sauce
Cheese slices
garlic chives
8-10 pods of garlic
50 gms butter
salt and black pepper to taste
garlic knots
Preheat your oven to 200°C.Start with defrosting the puff pastry sheet and rolling out on a liberally floured worktop to 1/4 inch thick . I cut out a rectangle 12 inches by 8 inches.
Folded it in half and began slicing...
Cut off a triangle, and the lines like a Christmas tree. And a small triangle at the bottom.
Open out carefully, so that you dont tear the strips.
Place pizza sauce on the uncut portion and spread 2 cheese slices.
Now let the strips hug each other like so and form a criss cross pattern till the end. Cleanly cut the small triangular cuts at the bottom that will allow you to close the pizza weave.
Pinch to seal any loose ends. Mine didnt stay pinched and looked a little crab like.
Lift carefully using a metal spatula and place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
Paint the Pizza Weave with beaten egg .
For the garlic rolls ,slice some garlic chives and coriander or parsely mix with melted butter, salt and pepper. I also added a couple of sachets of Domino's Red Chilli flakes.
Roll out the puff pastry to 1/5 inch thick.
Cut strips along the length . Pull out and further roll them to 1/8 inch thin. Rolls...so now the strips are long and about 2 inches wide.
Cut to 1 inch thin and apply the butter mix ...dont be too liberal.
Roll up and place in your muffin tray. Once the rolls are baked you'll see why.
All the melted butter stays in the cups and gets absorbed back as the rolls cool.
Once these are ready , brush with milk or egg and pop into the oven...
20 to 25 minutes and they are done.
The Pizza weave patty...
(I rotated the trays midway to get even browning.)
Look at the beauties...Golden crisp savoury garlicy , heaven. Rocking with a cup of tea or coffee or a bowl of soup or just like that...The pizza Weave Patty was a different patty...
This is just one thing that you can do with puff pastry. Roll it ,twist it ,shape or bake it ...
Have fun with it...
I made mushroom vol au vents and Puff Pastry Pizzas with the same dough...
Awesomeness doesn't get any better than this.
So what are you baking today???
