Friday Night Book Club

By Alyssa_dld @alyssa_dld
Monday, Monday. It was back to work for me today.  I guess some people think the day after the Superbowl should be a holiday.  All I have to say is "I wish." We are currently in what I refer to as the Holiday Dry Spell which is the time after the first of the year till Memorial Day when we have no other holidays.  This is why I need to go on a vacation.  My boss will agree, I'm sure.
On Friday night I traveled up to Katie's for our inaugural meeting of book club.  Katie got the idea for a book club by reading MWF Seeking BFF which I've read in the past for a different book club.  My weekends have been full of plans lately so I haven't had a chance to attend my old book club in quite a while.

Katie did a wonderful preparing questions that helped foster the discussion about the book and making friends.  It's been so long since I've talked about a book for more than 1 minute and I loved it.  I enjoyed meeting a few new people as well as chatting with a few bloggers I haven't seen in a bit.
The food was delicious.  I made spiced candied walnuts and almonds following this recipe.  They are very addicting.  I ate way too many on Saturday.  I'll try to eat them slowly as snacks for the rest of the week.  I also enjoyed spinach and artichoke dip and Kelly's deep dish Biscoff cookies.
I feel like a lot of people can connect with this book.  Especially if you've ever moved to a new city and faced the struggle of finding friends! I know this was a big issue for me when I moved to Arlington Heights after college.  Interestingly, most of the people I've met and made friends with here have been through blogging.  My mom thinks that weird but hey, it works!
