On Monday I kicked off my Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival week of events with the QueensPlaza High Tea and Fashion Trends, held for the first time in the magnificent Grand Ballroom at Tattersall's Club.
Over a delectable high tea, we were treated to a parade featuring the must-have pieces of the new season from QueensPlaza's luxurious Australian and International retailers, including opulent jewels by Paspaley and Bulgari.
Among my favourites was a light blue and white striped shirt dress with white accessories (which I plan to replicate on a budget while I'm on holidays) and a stunning black and white striped mini dress from Aje.
As expected, the clothes and accessories were stunning but it was the Q&A with model Lianna Perdis and her makeup mogul dad Napoleon Perdis, both ambassadors for this year's festival, which I enjoyed the most-and not just because they raved about how sophisticated everyone looked.
The eldest of Napoleon's four daughters, 18-year-old Lianna has 10 magazine covers under her belt including Harper's Bazaar and Madame Figaro in Europe; Oyster, Grazia and Girlfriend in Australia and has walked in both New York and Australian Fashion Weeks-and she wowed the audience in Monday night's Pacific Fair Fashion Show at Old Government House.
Delving into the beauty industry just like her father, Lianna is the face of Napoleon Perdis cosmetics, and also the co-creator of the brand's youthful beauty line, Total Bae. She also said she's a big believer that 'less is more' when it comes to makeup. Hallelujah!
"Everyone is beautiful in their own way and I believe makeup is about enhancing your natural beauty. Fresh skin, very hydrated lips or a beautiful lipstick-maybe a bold lip-and brows and mascara, because they help define and frame your face," she said.
Her thoughts were echoed by Napoleon who said it was time to ease up on the bronzer and highlighter.
"We're launching more and more skincare to prepare for skin looking more beautiful and anti-ageing, and moving away from all of that that's been happening for the last five or six year with all that chocolate barring and optical illusions," he said of the trend of heavy contouring made popular by the Kardashians.
"They may work for a photo but in reality, people want to look fresh and like themselves."
Napoleon, who opened his first store in the Sydney suburb of Leichhardt in 1992, said this year's MBFF Brisbane runway makeup looks would be more natural, designed to enhance each models natural beauty.
"We'll be putting together a good smokey eye with a metallic as well as some fresh natural eyes and bold lips. At the moment blush is in and really cool so we'll be working that 80s that power cheek," he said.
"Remember one thing-you're the trend. Whatever you want to do, you do; the catwalk is just meant to be inspiration so take what you want from it. Don't worry about all the trends. Just have fun and enjoy it."
He also reminded everyone about the importance of priming your face before you apply any makeup.
The second mini Q&A featured Megan Johnson from Brisbane's Mi Color salons who shared her hair care tips and trends for Spring/Summer.
"Love your hair. Take your hair on a journey of care and invest in great products. We've really got to look after the hair we have," she said.
And when it comes to what's hot on the runway, expect to see everything from sleek and shiny to big and bouncy.
"We've seen strong parts and sleek ponytails. And today, the bigger the hair, the smaller the hip and we all love that look," she said, to much applause!
"There will also be lots of waves and as the week goes on, there will be more effortless hair which is very beautiful and natural."

Choose joy || 25K!
