Free To Be Me

By Bren @Virtual_Bren

I posted this the other day on All Things Bren, my Tumblr page, and I’ve read it over a dozen times. There’s just something about this quote that resonates with me.

Tumblr1

My quote:

Sometimes you need to let go and allow things to fall as they may. We might not like the way they fall but at least you allowed yourself to believe.

Believe in what?

Believe in Fate and the ability to be Free to be Me.

What does that mean, Free to be Me?

When we get so wrapped up in “controlling” our situations and not letting go of that control, we are not Free. We are prisoners in our own body. We worry so much about “controlling” the outcome of the situation, that we capture our mind, our heart, and our soul. Again, We are Prisoners in our own Body.

We Must Let Go

In order to set our mind, our heart, and our soul Free, We Must Let Go. I believe in Destiny. A predetermined course of events. So whatever is going to happen, will happen whether I drive myself crazy trying to “control” it or not.

Sometimes you need to let go and allow things to fall as they may.

By letting go, we are allowing ourselves to be Free. Free from the worrying. Free from the exhaustion of trying to constantly “control”. Free from the situation that imprisoned us in our own bodies. Free

How Do We Let Go?

Tiny Buddha, one of my favorite spiritual sites, has listed 40 Ways to Let Go and Be Feel Less Pain. I highly recommend it.

If you are trying to let go of emotions and thoughts, instead of people, relationships, or traumatic events, here are a few tips that might help:

  1. When your mind is spinning out of control, and we know we don’t like to not be in control, try to focus on a happy place. A picture of the beach; a visual in your mind of a peaceful/serene place; listen to your favorite soothing music. This will should help calm your mind. Visualization
  2. Think of your own personal achievements (positive) in order to try to weed the negative away. Reflect on your achievements
  3. Sleep, eat, exercise, dance, or whatever else is soothing for you. Meditate outside in nature or take a candlelit bubblebath. Physical
  4. Avoid Alcohol and Drugs! Alcohol and Drugs are depressants and will make you feel worse. Whatever you do, Avoid them.
  5. If none of the above works for you, it might be time to seek professional help with either your Family Physician or a Counselor. There’s no shame in asking for assistance in helping you Let Go and Free Yourself.

Confession

I am in the process of Letting Go. I need to Free myself from thoughts that have been tormented me for many months now. It’s Not Easy but I must do it! I have imprisoned myself for too long and I Must Free myself.

How am I going to do it?

I’m not sure yet but I am really trying with #1 above, Visualization. When I start feeling like I’m being contained in an isolation chamber, I take a few deep breaths and reflect on my happy visuals. For me, my happy visuals are usually places I’ve been that I find peaceful and soothing. The Beach but just not any beach. Cape May, New Jersey; Cancun, Mexico; and St. Lucia are fabulous visualizations for me.

free to be me

I remove myself from wherever I am, if possible and go to a quiet place. I Meditate for a few minutes. I follow the path in my head to my happy place. I look around at the sky, the beach, the water and I’m always there by myself. There I can regroup my feelings and thoughts and Free myself, if for only that moment. The more I practice, the better I am at Freeing myself.

This may not work for you though. Everyone must find their own technique to Free themselves. I know some who pray to the God(s). Others meditate or go for a walk or exercise. Whatever it is that you can do to Free yourself, that is what you must do.

The Goal

Free Yourself. Be Free to be You. Break the Chains that Bind You. Walk out of that Prison Cell and Embrace You.

I am working on being Free to be Me and I have a plan to help me achieve that goal.

If you are feeling imprisoned, do you have a goal to Free yourself? If you were once imprisoned and are now Free, how did you accomplish that?

I’d love to hear from you.
