Flu Season – Don’t Panic, Be Prepared!

By Lindsayleighbentley @lindsayLbentley

So it seems that my Twitter and Facebook feeds are full of a lot of folks scared to death of the flu.  There is a lot of news about the “terrible outbreak”.  Before you freak out, please, please remember a few things:

The flu goes around every year.  Yes, people do get very sick and some, a very, very small few, do die.  Remember that these are generally immune compromised individuals.

Also good to remember, a lot of the articles that spread fear of the “flu pandemic” are also working with the special interest groups that push the flu shot.

So, rather than panicking, or worse, getting the flu shot, be prepared!

First, a strong immune system is the absolute best defense against illness of any kind.  Keep yours strong by eating a diet of whole foods, LOTS of fresh veggies (as many raw as you can) and keep grains to a minimum.  Get as many probiotics in your system as possible through raw live sources (fermented veggies, kombucha, raw yogurt).

Avoid sugar at all costs.  It weakens the immune system which is the last thing you need right now.

Second, get plenty of vitamin D.  And I mean the good kind: D3.   I prefer to do drops, and the whole family takes them daily.  We double our dosage in the fall and winter when we aren’t getting the sun that we do in the Spring and Summer.

You need vitamin K2 to properly absorb vitamin D.  If you regularly eat green leafy foods, fermented veggies, and dark meats and egg-yolks from grass-fed animals and pasture raised hens, you more than likely have an ample supply in your system.

Third, raw garlic is the absolute best for both building immunity and fighting illness.  I can not personally just chew a clove of raw garlic.  I have what is called a “geographic tongue” which makes it very sensitive to strong, spicy foods.

So, I take my Terrible Tonic daily, as does the rest of my family.

It truly has kept us well through the fall and winter seasons.  Plus, the added benefit of the raw apple cider vinegar makes it a real flu-fighter!

Also, get a good source of vitamin C. My kiddos take Sambucus, and my husband and I do a powdered raw vitamin C.

Soak in a tub of mineral salts to draw toxins out of your body.

Also, remember to wash yours and your children’s hands immediately when you get home from being out.  This sounds simple, but I know it has kept us from catching little bugs here and there.

If you do happen to get the flu, still, don’t panic.

Quadruple your vitamin D intake, double your vitamin C.  Eat vegetables with butter and lots of bone broth.

Have some oscillococcinum on hand to help shorten the life of the flu.

Remember to let a fever of 101 or lower burn…it is your body’s way of fighting the illness.

And above all, get plenty of rest and….don’t stress!  Stress is one of the worst things you can do for your immune system.  Watch a funny movie, read a good book, and focus on yourself being well.
