Five on Friday: Bec Lutz of Harvest Lane

By Blondeambition @BrookeFalvey

Harvest Lane is a vibrant new label from the Bec and Chris Lutz, the dynamic duo behind Melbourne fashion destination, Design A Space. Fun, fresh and full of colour (no surprise why I love it!), the collection's easy-to-wear pieces gather inspiration from Mother Nature's vibrant offerings.

Last week, I caught up with Bec who spends her days juggling their ever growing businesses and being mum to their three children; Coco, 7, Arabella, 4 and two-year-old Luca.

Describe yourself in three words:
Creative, colourful and driven

How did Harvest Lane begin? The label began from a desire and a need to feel creative again, after getting caught up in the exciting whirlwind of retail. I wanted to throw myself into the crazy, fun, world of fashion and not just be invested in it from behind the scenes.

Where did the name Harvest Lane comes from?
The name Harvest Lane reflects a sense of gathering inspiration from nature, with each season's prints being indicative of what you might see around you, plus it also represents Melbourne's unique identity and culture. It's a combination of earthy meets arty.

You also run Design A Space in Melbourne, a constantly evolving fashion hub where designers can showcase their creative wares, so how do you juggle both businesses?
I have an incredible, devoted team around me who work endlessly to get amazing results, both at Design A Space and Harvest Lane. Without them it would simply not be possible to be involved in both businesses. My love of fashion and creativity keeps me excited about what's to come.

Do you have a favourite piece within your collection?
If I had to choose, I think my favourite style would be the Trixie Dress, as it can be dressed up for special occasions or worn more casually. It's also an easy one to wear and is perfect for a mum with young kids, because it's flattering (i.e. - it hides a lot!) and is an appropriate length.

Your prints are so bright, bold and fun. Where do you find most of the inspiration for such great prints?
Well I absolutely love colour which I am sure you can tell and I tend to find inspiration through artwork, architecture and nature, which is reflected in my prints.

A few pieces in the latest collection feature bright backgrounds, are the people of Melbourne finally veering away from their all-black wardrobes?
I think Melbourne is far more stylish than people give it credit for! Of course we all have 'those' black pieces in our wardrobes, but I am here to offer an alternative, and thankfully it seems that people are very responsive to this. There is actually a lot of colour around this Spring/Summer and Melbourne is really embracing it wholeheartedly. My aim is to make sure every customer who puts on a Harvest Lane piece has a smile on their face and I believe the easiest way to do this is through colour. Isn't life all about rainbows and unicorns anyway?!

What is your favourite go-to outfit for Spring/Summer?
For me it's a dress; they are super easy and it means your outfit is done in one piece! Well maybe two to three pieces; I always love a pair of fun, statement earrings to top it off...and let's not forget some fabulous shoes.

Who are your beauty and style inspirations? I love Cara Delevingne for her effortless chic look, which she produces time after time.

What's the best holiday you've been on and why?
Our recent family holiday to Hawaii was a dream. We are sun chasers, so the beaches were magical and our children loved snorkelling with the turtles each morning and having surf lessons. The food was incredible, and of course a touch of shopping was in order, which completed the perfect trip!

What are your hopes for 2018 - for both yourself and the label?
On a personal level, our kids are now at such a great age, so we would love to do some more travelling with them in 2018. And as far as Harvest Lane goes - we will continue to grow the wholesale side of the business and produce more regular collections throughout the year. We are also very excited about the new prints going forward and can't wait to share them with our customers!

You can find Harvest Lane on Instagram here, Facebook here and shop the collection online and/or find stockists here (I already have the Jellyfish Jagger Dress).
