I’m officially in Week 2 training for the 2016 Cleveland Rite Aid Marathon Challenge Series in Cleveland, Ohio.  The races all take place over the weekend of May 14-15, 2016.  I’ve signed up for the 8k on Saturday, May 14, followed by the half marathon on Sunday, May 15! Just typing it seems like a tall order for me but I know it’ll be fun just because it’s part of my hometown favorite race ever – the Cleveland Marathon Series!!.  If you haven’t signed up for the race yet, you can still get some great pricing on it so be sure to sign up soon!!

Once I get home from the Cleveland race, I’ll be strapping the shoes on once more for the upcoming fall racing season here in Florida, and specifically, I[‘ll be in training mode for the Myakka River Half Marathon here in Sarasota, Florida. Make sure you find them on Facebook since they’re always offering a great pricing deal for their race too!

Anyway, this is called Tuesday’s Training Report for a reason. I’m supposed to tell you about my training so here it goes:

Monday is my rest day so I didn’t run.

Tuesday – I ran 2 miles (Mile 1 – 14:07; Mile 2 – 13:56)

Wednesday – I was supposed to run 3 miles but bumped it to Thursday

Thursday – I ran 3 miles (Mile 1 14:23; Mile 2 14:08; Mile 3: 14:02)

Friday is also an off day for me.

Saturday – the Scrub Jay 5K at Oscar Scherer State Park in Osprey, Florida.

The flyer for this race advertised it as a trail run with “mostly hard packed sand and grass through the park…” so my friend and I signed up. While I’m always apprehensive about trail runs due to the fact that I cannot change elevations well as a result of the pin holding my pelvis together from my car accident, the description sounded safe.  I had run the race in the past and was thinking it was the same course – which it was not. I was careful not to shoot out at the beginning of the race and use up all my energy in the first mile like I’ve been known to do.  Instead, I properly paced based upon my current training.  I got to mile 1.3 per my Garmin, and this is what I saw on and off through the second mile:

sand

Now I’m not an expert here – but this does not look packed or remotely level to me.  I think if you add water to this you might have quicksand, I’m just saying.  Trust me when I tell you that while I finished, my time was horrific.  I was happy to see that my third mile was faster than my first mile though, so that second mile full of thick fluffy sand didn’t keep me from at least finishing strong.

Oh and a little more about Florida races….. don’t think you are stopping for a quick dip in the lake when you’re done either…….

So that’s the story of my training this week. Ordinarily, this is where I would tell you about how I did with my weight but I’m not going to because I never stepped on the scale yesterday. I had the day off work and completely forgot.  I can say up until Sunday evening, I did really well with my eating but I’m still struggling with water intake. Maybe my failure to weigh in had something to do with the fact that “J” came home from an extended family visit in CLE town last weekend, and brought me salsa from my favorite Mexican restaurant – Luchita’s. Since it contains no preservatives, we basically “power eat” it on everything for as long as it lasts. When the chips are gone, we start pouring it on chicken, pork, whatever!! LOL!

Oh, and speaking of Valentine’s Day (okay, we weren’t speaking of it, but I’m talking about it anyway). Guess who got Pandora wing and heart earrings? ME!! YAY!! Here’s how that went down – we agreed to “no cards, no gifts” because hey, it’s a Hallmark holiday anyway right? So, as “J” was leaving to go to Cleveland last week, there was a Women’s Health magazine on the table that I had already read.  I just happened to bend the corner of the page that was advertising the Pandora earrings because I was thinking I wanted to look into them further, but never did. Of course, that fold on the page was a red flag that said I wanted them! Couldn’t have planned that better if I was trying!

Okay so that is it for this week. I’ll touch back next Tuesday to let you know how Week 3 goes!
