Favourite Trends | Alana

So in last week’s styling lesson, we were asked to write another blog post, this time on our favorite trends! There are quite a few trends I love that have already caught my eye this year, so I will write my opinion on two of them.

Floral patterns are a big trend in spring/summer; the trend does seem to creep up almost every year which is great, as clothes that were worn the previous year can we worn again the following! The floral patterns are a favorite of many, the colours and designs are perfect for the season that the trend arises.
The fashion industries ongoing love affair with floral prints continues for Spring/Summer 2013 with a substantial amount of designers offering up their take on the iconic trend. Popular items of clothing for the upcoming seasons will be the gorgeous floral print dresses, swimsuits, jeans, t-shirts and underwear as well as stunning floral-print accessories such as shoes, bags, jewelry and even sunglasses. This season’s Florals come in soft pastel colours and vibrant hues, all of which are some variation of the garden theme.
Florals are all about having fun with fashion and embracing the joy and romance of spring/summer. You could have the prettiest floral print jeans with a plain white t-shirt and still the look will be fab! It is always key to wear something plain with something printed, this is so the outfit doesn’t look too much and also people can focus on the patterned item of clothing which is of course the one you would be flaunting.

 My second favorite trend of this year is denim. The denim material keeps revamping itself each season, creating our obsession with new prints, washes and the construction of it. On the 2013 runways, denim took on very creative forms- from the denim jumpsuit worn open over a crop top at Rebecca Taylor to the pearl trimmed denim tube dress at Chanel. Even in high-street stores denim has been spotted sporting new patterns such as, waxing on jeans and denim cutoffs. Whether it’s bright, blue or printed denim, this popular trend is sticking around for many years to come.
Denim jackets are making a massive comeback this year, after their popularity in the 1990s; they haven’t really been that big in the fashion industry in the 21st century - until now. In my opinion denim jackets are amazing, I have a couple myself and when it comes to the spring/summer seasons they are no doubt out of the wardrobe and ready-to-wear! Denim is a great look for spring/summer, the trend is enjoyed the most at festivals where you can just slip into a denim jacket or a pair of denim shorts, to go with the rest of your outfit and that is the greatest thing about denim, it goes with practically anything.
So many different patterns can be printed on denim; popular patterns on denim are stripes, polka dots and my favourite- floral prints. I think this is an excellent way to wear more than one thing you like, as I am a big fan of both floral print and denim, I can just wear some floral print denim jeans and I'm sorted. This is the same for people with similar interests too!
