Fashion Tip Friday: Skin Huggin’ Pants

flared pants

Ahhh… my biggest issue with fashion has to be finding the perfect fitting pair of pantaloons. Yes, I am very picky… but I don’t think I am the only one who can’t find that dream pair of pants (I hear it’s common). I pretty much have chicken legs, which can be a blessing & a curse. Blessing because I finally have learned to embrace my toothpicks & curse because all the pants I buy are too baggy in the legs. I have always loved a super tight pair of flares… and used to spend quite a bit of time and money getting my pants altered. Thank goodness I learned to sew! If you aren’t handy with a sewing machine, you may have to bribe your mom to help you out with them (or anyone you know who sews for that matter)… but other than that- it’s pretty simple.

how to alter your own pants

+ Always keep your supplies close to your machine, it’s a pain to stop sewing to grab a pin. Trust.

+ Put your pants on INSIDE OUT, and pin them just how you want them to fit when worn right side in. Remember to be generous at first, if you need them tighter than just stitch it again. You don’t want to do it all the way down, have them be too tight, and have to seam rip em.

+ Take your pants off & get your sew on ladies. One thing to remember- be careful when taking your pants off as you don’t want to pull a pin or stab yourself (I am not responsible for any sewing based injuries).  When sewing, taper from the starting point so you don’t get any nasty puckers.

+ Cut the excess and stay 1/2 inch from your stitch when cutting. If you cut to close chances are the thread will pull apart once the inside cut begins to shred more and more- and a hole in the seam isn’t the greatest look.
