The first Extreme Energy Summit is on the horizon, Feb. 7-10. 2013 in the beautiful Catksill Mountains of New York. All you non-stop action junkies don’t get too excited, it’s not a conference on discussing hyper-caffeinated products that keep you rigging treesits until sunrise. Its’s a strategy session for building cross-movement solidarity.

Why an Extreme Energy Summit?
Here’s a message from the summit organizers: ”We believe that the systemic changes necessary to win each of our struggles can only be won by a unified national anti-extraction movement. We believe that one struggle’s gains will be another’s losses if we do not support each other and change the fundamental terms of the debate on our energy and economic future. We believe we are running out of time.
Remember this? Deepwater Horizon explosion from BP’s 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill disaster… Way more Xtreme than an energy drink.
“To this end, we are launching and extreme energy summit, an encuentro, to bring together folks fighting tar sands, stripmining, hydrofracking, uranium mining and deep water drilling for a weekend of learning, relationship-building, and shared strategy. We wish for your presence during this time of exchange.
“An outline of what the Extreme Energy Summit program will consist of includes: strategic learning exchanges, regional and movement caucuses, shared language and analysis, development, brainstorm and prioritize collaborative projects, and lastly exploring vision and ideas for a national collaborative project and next steps.

About the camp
Located in Olivebridge, New York on 374-acres of Catskill forests, streams and farmland, the Ashokan Center is a special blend of geologic, natural and human history. 20 minutes from NYS Thruway (I-87), 2 hours north of New York City, 1.5 hours south of Albany, New York.
