Exploring Colors and Texture

By Pmeurice
One of the things I have in mind - shall we take it as a New year resolution? - is to explore further the pastel medium, pushing my work playing with both colors and textures, towards abstracted paintings.
I felt frustrated with some of my work recently... I was arriving in the studio, was eager to create something, but was falling short of subjects to paint and inspiration. I was then diving on internet, searching for nice materials, trying to find inspiration from them, human figures or landscapes, but again, was not able to be really moved by any of the photographs I was finding. They were allowing me to start working : I was doing a lots of drawing, somehow, sharpening my sense of observation. But, progressing in my work, I was feeling some important parts were missing, that the work was not leading anywhere : I wasn't feeling connected to it anymore.
I then decided that, if had 'nothing' to paint, this would not be a constraint anymore... that I had to search in me to find how to satisfy my appetite to create. Abstraction seemed like a solution to me, on this particular aspect : the subject can come from inner feelings, listening to a specific music, immersing myself in a more contemplative attitude, or simply diving in the paint, on the medium, rubbing pastels and chalks on the paper pulp...
My first attempt came, as my mood drove me towards velvety reds and darkened blue - I will let the viewers connect with the work. for me, it was good attempt to lay a part of me on paper.
Here it is, between Red and Blue :
