Ever Growing Independence

By Mummyoftwo @RaspberryGiggle

Little Miss A is coming up to 17 months now and over the past few weeks her independence has been growing.

She certainly knows what she likes and what she doesn't like and isn't shy at letting us know! She is certainly finding her voice and if she can't tell us what she wants using the words she knows like 'no' or 'down' she will scream at us until we work out what she wants!

The main area of independence over the past week has been her insistence to walk everywhere! She loves trotting about after her big brother whilst we are out and about, however, she now wants to walk when it is just the two of us.

I have been letting her walk back from the school run and back again to pick Little Mr A up in the afternoon. I don't mind that it adds an extra 20 minutes onto what should be a 10 minute walk, the weather is nice and we have nothing to rush home for!

What I do mind is the tantrums she often has if she isn't getting her own way. If I try and move her on from woofing at the (many) dogs we see or stop her from touching every railing on a fence as we walk past she will go limp and refuse to walk. Try putting her in her pushchair and she will go rigid and scream - I can't win!

This morning she was being particularly difficult as I wouldn't let her push the pushchair! After dragging her along the pavement screaming I decided enough was enough. I managed to get her back in the pushchair and we eventually got home!

As for food time - she loves to do it by herself and thankfully her spoon skills have improved no end in the last few weeks! Tea times are a lot less messy and I actually get to eat my food whilst it is still hot (well most of the time anyway!).

She knows when it is snack time in the morning and will let me know by doing a very cute little noise, pretending she is eating! This is usually followed by a trip to the cupboard to help herself to some raisins and a rice cake!

Her language skills continue to amaze me. Quite often in an afternoon we will sit together and look at books and she is starting to pick up a lot more words now. Little Mr A has noticed how she will copy words he says now and has started to teach her things too.

Last night Little Miss A even managed to string two words together - 'go down'. She wanted to get out of her highchair and I obviously wasn't doing it quick enough!!

I know I have said it before but she really is growing up so fast!
