If Instagram numbers are the measure to popularity, then comedian Eric Omondi takes the crown as the most followed celebrity in Kenya.
This is only true if we do not still consider award winning actress Lupita Nyong’o part of the everyday Kenyan celebrity routine.
Lupita boasts an impressive 6 million followers, five times that of Omondi. Hollywood factor? Maybe, maybe not.

The comedian was in a celebratory mood as he thanked his fans on social media for the milestone after hitting the 1.4 million mark.
“Women will lie, Men will lie, but Numbers will NEVER lie... Officially the most followed Person in Kenya and Uganda (Zari ni Wa Tanzania . Kila mtu angenitumia Shillingi moja moja hapa ningekua na Millioni moja nukta nne. Sasa naeza kuwafunza jinsi mtakavyo wafikisha wapenzi wenu kileleni mkitumia kucha,” he posted.
Ever since he broke into the scene about 10 years ago, he has remained consistent on the platform and has managed to make 6,534 posts.
He is not alone in the million mark though, socialite Huddah Monroe is hot on his heels with 1.3 million followers.
Sauti Sol follow with 1.1 million, Vera Sidika 992,000, Bahati 931,000, Size 8 921,000, Betty Kyallo 884,000 and Jalang’o 824 ,000 among others.
As Omondi pointed out, Zari Hassan is on another lane, she has a respectable 4.5 million followers.
